Group 2's Contribution to the Basic Skills Project

Group 2 will endeavour to make the class understand and master the topic of distance and lines for the Basic Skills Project. Distance and lines is a broad topic and has been proven to be very difficult as it requires the knowledge and memorization of formulas and like every other topic in math- lots of practice.

The topic will be taught by all or some of the following methods:

  • detailed step-by-step examples
  • tutorial videos
  • tips and tricks
  • releveant problems and their detailed solutions

We will discuss the following sub-topics in our study guide:

  • Distance theory
  • Distance formula (How to compute, etc)
  • Slope and slope formula
  • Equation of the line

Remarks on your contribution to the Basic Skills Project

Dear group 2,

It seems to me there is still a lot of material missing. As far as the material posted goes, I have a few remarks:

  • The explanation of How to compute the equation of a line given its slope and a point could definitively use a few more details. You mention values of X and Y, but we don't really know what they are. I suspect the coordinates of a point that you know to be on the line. This should be mentioned.
  • Some examples could be helpful. There are a lot of ways to post that on the wiki (upload a scan of a piece of paper, upload a pdf file, type it directly in there).

Feel free to contact me if you need to. Cheers,
