Another pope, another power struggle!

Once again here we see a struggle for power- not only between church and state but among different popes who all claim a superior legitimacy to the papal seat. I dont know the full context of these other popes, weather they were fellow religious men or political pawns but nevertheless, I think theres something to meditate on there in terms of our own jostling for power and legitimacy within our own churches but also between churches. Only 2 weeks ago did I unfortunately have to sit through a "sermon" whose main point seemed not to be encouraging or edifying the congregation to the worship of Christ, but to themselves! Loosesly, the speaker drew lines between traditional "pew" churches which he called dead, and contemporary (progressive?? but given other examples he cited this doesnt make sense) "chair" churches (such as he was speaking to) as more "alive", wrapping it in a matrix blue pill/red pill metaphor. I was horrified by this- as someone who has been a part of many churches who worship in different styles, some in pews, some in chairs, all have had their strengths and weaknesses but all confessed and worshipped Christ and in that I would never categorize one as "dead", even with smaller sizes, nor would I put the particular church I am attending on a pedastel of greatness. The glory is christ's alone. I know I went on a bit of a rant and a rabbit hole here but its still fresh in my mind and so is what I thought of, understanding that to some degree, the particulars of the medeival power struggle were different.
