Fascinating John of Damascus | 1 | 12:06, 27 October 2021 |
John of Damascus’ biography is rather intriguing because unlike the majority of early fathers, he came from an Arab and Muslim culture rather than from northern African or Roman background. It’s not surprising that his works also refute the teaching of Islam and argue that Islam is a heresy.
It is also encouraging to learn that His writings were employed in the Second Council of Nicaea, demonstrating that the council actually considered of leaders from diverse backgrounds. His defense on the use of icons in Christian Orthodox worship and miracle linked to praying before an icon are equally fascinating. Many would obviously associate it with idol worship.
Thanks my good friend for the highlights. In fact John of Damascus is a great inspiration to me, although I am not a Catholic. That also brings to mind the fact that theology cannot be done in a vacuum. May God grant us the divine enablement to be able to chalk such great feats in our dispensation. The journey is tough but faithful is he who has called us.
