Equity in Canadian Post-Secondary Funding: Gini Index Analysis of Absolute and Per Student Allocation.

Abstract

Nowadays, government funding on post-secondary schools is common in Canada. But whether the amount of funding is distributed equally across the ten provinces remains unknown. This research focuses on evaluating the (in)equality of provincial funding on post-secondary schools over Canada. Through this research, policymakers can acquire valuable information about prospective provinces where specific provinces may encounter unequal educational resource distribution and adjust the provincial funding depending on the uneven allocation. The current research involved a model of funding allocation to investigate the equitable distribution of educational funds. It is hypothesized that the results will exhibit inequality in absolute values while shows equality in per student funding. The Gini coefficient index is utilized to uncover the disparities in expenditure allocation among provinces. These findings have significant implications for how educational authorities adjust financial resource distribution.
