Evaluate the Amount of Food Additives UBC Students Daily Consumed

Abstract

As the people’s health awareness has increased in recent years, people are paying more attention to the nutrients and harmful substances in their daily diet. Food additives are commonly found in daily foods. However, some people do not have a comprehensive recognition and judgment of the types of food additives, and they also have some ambiguity about the harm of food additives to the body, which leads them to consume too much food additives in daily life and causes long-term damage to the body. The purpose of this study is to find out the amount of food additives in the foods that 50 UBC students from different backgrounds consume daily in this summer term. The study will find out the amount of benzoic acid, sodium nitrite, and tartrazine in common everyday foods and then infer the amount of additives consumed by the students around them by investigating their daily intake of these foods. The research can better help people to build their knowledge about food additives.
