The Relationship Between Wilfires and Precipitation in U.S.

Abstract

In the past few years, both scientists and the public have paid great attention to the impact of climate on wildfire. However, little is known about the impact of precipitation on wildfires. In this research, we investigate the influence of annual precipitation on fire in different landscapes. We choose national forests and parks in American as our research objectives, and we record the precipitation and frequency of wildfires from 2015 to 2019. Also, we see the relationship between two variables by calculating and graphing. We predict that an increase in the number of rainy days (meaning more rainfall) in a local area will reduce the size and frequency of forest fires in the area. This research can provide some help for the study of rainfall and other factors causing fire in the future.

Biographies

Yuxuan Bi:

In this research, I am responsible for organizing and querying information. In this study, I cooperated with each member of the team very well, and everyone completed their work in an orderly manner. The difficulty I encountered in this activity was that my thinking was not broad enough, and the mind map at the beginning was not perfect enough, nor was it diffused enough. As a result, I always didn't know what to write when I wrote the following homework.

Jiayun Zhang:

I am responsible for the study of method part and half of discussion. I think the biggest difficulty is that our RQ is not specific enough, so our group often improves it according to the teacher's advice. As a result, the experimental process and method I found before cannot be matched to the new RQ. In addition, I find it challenging to find and draw the right image, which is difficult to find an image that meets our requirements and results.

Xiaotong Yang:

I am responsible for the objective and conclusion of this project. My team members and I cooperate very well. In the research, I think it is the most difficult to choose a suitable and specific research question. The second difficulty is to find relevant information that fits the research question and the direction of our discussion. Moreover, I think it is difficult to find relevant data. Since it is difficult to find the data of two subjects in one table at the same time, I can only find the data of two research subjects separately and then merge and compare them.

Zihan Zhao:

In this group research, I was responsible for the introduction part and the literature review part. I believe that this research activity is a very good experience for my further study. In the process of investigation and research, I exchanged ideas with team members and each performed his own duties. These are things I can't do on my own. The difficulty I encountered was about the use of reference. When we found some reference and material, we needed to think about how to use them in our own research, so as to make the research theoretical and unique. In addition, I had some disputes with the team members in deciding the topic, which also could broaden our vision.
