Applying SIR modelling to the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

We model the Covid-19 pandemic in two provinces with different population densities in Canada (Ontario and British Columbia) using an SIR model and data from September 2020 through December 2020. We compare the SIR model with real-world data to test for critical factors that influenced the pandemic. By comparing two areas with different conditions using mathematical modelling, we aim to provide valuable suggestions on how to decrease the number of infections.
