The Effect of Water pH on the First Week of Growth for Mung Beans.

Abstract

In this project, we analyzed the effect of pH level in water on growth of mung beans. In the experiment, a total of five groups of experiments were conducted simultaneously, using different pH values. The object in this experiment is mung beans and the research task was the effect of pH on the growth of mung bean.

Our group set the hypothesis is neutral water (around 6.5- 7.5pH) has no effect on mung beans during the first week of growth, while water with high pH (>7.5) or water with low pH (<6.5) will have a negative impact on the growth of mung bean. At the end of the experiment, the results we got are consistent with the hypothesis we set up. We believe that our experiment will serve as a reference for similar experiments.

Biographies

Vanessa Xiong

Vanessa Xiong is a vantage one science student at UBC. She is interested in chemistry and environment. Therefore, she aims to major in environmental science. In this case, she could learn more about earth, ocean, and environment. In this project, she is reponsible for the introduction part.

Xiran Wei

Xiran Wei is a first year vantage science student at UBC. He is interested in science and computer science. Therefore, he wants to study courses and knowledge related to science and computer science.

Fangzhou Ye

Fangzhou Ye is a first year student study Vantage One Bachelor of Science at University of British Columbia. He is interested in computers, physics and mathematics and hopes to develop in the direction of computers in the future. In this project, he was mainly responsible for the statistics and integration of experimental data and the making of charts of experimental data. In addition, he was also responsible for searching relevant literature.

Mengfei Chen

Mengfei Chen is a first year student in Vantage Bachelor of Science at UBC. He is interested in Math and statistics and also wants to learn knowledge for physics and environmental science. In this project, he make contribution to write method (research plan) and cooperate with teammates to complete the analysis of the results for the whole research..
