What is your research question?

How do gender inequality and anti-sexual harassment education training in Japanese hospitals affect the level of sexual harassment in both female and male nurses?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Gender Equality, Sex Education, Sexual Harassment.

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Sexual harassment is a severe societal issue, especially in Japanese hospitals, which offend

both female and male nurses’ dignity and daily lives. Sexual harassment can profoundly negatively impact both physical and mental health for the nurses who have experienced it. We want to enhance the anti-sexual harassment education in Japanese nursing schools and increase people’s resistance to sexual harassment through our research.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

Most popular press and researcher’s studies now focus on females as the primary target of sexual harassment. Our surveys are designed both for male and female nurses to investigate the impact of gender inequality and sexual education on the levels of sexual harassment, and the same number of female and male nurses will be engaged in our research.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

Researching the gap will help us better understand the influence of gender inequality on the levels of sexual harassment, and gender equality also belongs to sustainable development goals. Both females and males can be subject to sexual harassment; thus, we want to ensure there’s no stereotype on gender..

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

Our research focus on 2 of the UN’s sustainable development goals: Quality Education and Gender Equality. Solving the social problems caused by gender inequality and the problems caused by the lack of basic and necessary education is an essential aspect of constructing sustainable development of society.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

In contemporary society, sexual harassment becomes a severe societal issue. Also, the risk and extent of sexual harassment of nurses have become a global concern since nurses may deal with different people every day but received little respect from others; which has formed a common bias. Our group wants to eliminate this problem to a large extent, to provide some doable solutions, and to make people treat everyone and every occupation equally
