How the marine ecological crisis of killer whales affects the resource sustainability strategy in British Columbia

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Nowadays, because of pollution factors, the marine environment has increasingly deteriorated, and more and more marine species are endangered.And the environmental and ecological issues and the country's sustainable strategy are strongly related。So our research is dedicated to finding out the relationship and impact of the two.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

All the academic resources pay attention to the problem between marine animals’ crisis and environmental issues. There leaves a gap on how specifically killer whales are associated with the sustainable strategy in BC. Our proposed research aims to find the connection between killer whales and sustainability in order to fill that gap.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

Studying the specific relationship and degree of influence can help the government better develop relevant sustainable development strategies, maximize the efficiency of relevant policies and strategies, and provide a sample of other similar strategies through the study of specific species.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

We hope this research will help more people be aware of the importance of marine creatures and the marine environment so that more citizens can take action to improve marine pollution, which will eventually affects sustainable strategies in our lives.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

We are very interested in marine life and hope to learn more through the knowledge about sustainability learned in class. We then learned that the crisis in marine life is strongly related to many aspects. It is hoped to improve the situation of marine life as much by conducting relevant research as possible. The more we know, the more we find that marine lives’ importance to our lives. Thus, we want to illustrate the plight of a particular creature. As a result, we chose the popular marine creature-killer whales as our research target.
