What is your research question?

How can be Vancouver water system more resilient against earthquake?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Vancouver water supply system, earthquake, rebuilding.

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Because natural disasters like earthquakes are so devastating, they can almost destroy the normal water supply in Vancouver. In addition, Vancouver's water system is also considered to be ancient and fragile, but there are few proposals for a comprehensive reconstruction plan for the Vancouver water system. The main purpose of our group is to make recommendations through this study.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

Since the possibility of water supply disruption is very high. Yet there is little debate about how to rebuild and relocate the entire water supply network. So the suggestion of reconstruction is a gap in the existing literature.By gaining expertise and a deep understanding of water system structure, we directly interview professionals and conduct qualitative analysis.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

By proposing how to reconstruct the water system, we might be able to contribute to the engagement by local government to secure the water access even in the time of emergency. This suggestion could save the lives in the earthquake and helping saving the lives will definitely worthy to do.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

Water supply in this study is one of the Sustainable Development Goals, even though Canada has largely stabilized its water supply. However, it can also become highly unstable during emergencies such as earthquakes. This proposal could help Vancouver's water system to provide

water in an emergency to some extent.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

The research topic of this group is closely related to the major theme of sustainable development. Through in-depth research, we can better understand the characteristics of the watersupply system in Canada and the state of emergency. We can use some practical proposals to make the water supply available at any time, which is why we are interested in this topic.
