Research Proposal Presentation Title

Solar Power and Sustainability Development

Student researchers

Haotong Hong, Siwei Zhao, Tom Zheng, Zetong Xu

What is your research question?

What do residents of Beijing identify as the advantages of solar power and the barriers or disadvantages of adopting more solar power alternatives into their daily life?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Solar Power, Environmental Sustainability, Urban Construction

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Beijing faces problem on air pollution that the usage of fossil fuels makes the environmental problems worse. Sustainable energy sources become an essential source in local environmental governance and development policies. The research aims to Beijing residents' views on sustainable development of solar energy, investigates both advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, utilization rate of solar energy products in the future, just to promote people's living environment and maintain sustainable.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

Solar energy can greatly reduce the use of fossil fuels and protect Beijing's environment and air quality. However, Beijing residents' views on the use of solar energy products are missing from the literature. Therefore, we plan to set up the questionnaire to understand their views on the use of solar energy and their cognition of solar energy.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

If the technological level of the solar energy neighborhood is improved in the future. Beijing's ultra-high Sunshine Duration may allow solar energy to completely replace fossil fuels. In this way, the negative impression of traditional fossil fuels on Beijing's environmental sustainability can be resolved.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

People's excessive usage on non-renewable energy causes problem of ecological pollution. The study will promote future development on car dealerships that world is on the verge of an electric car and is phasing out gas-powered cars. The continuous improvement of solar power generation will promote the era of electric vehicles.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

Our group believes that humans should appropriately reduce fossil fuels. The environmental pollution and economic sanctions imposed by fossil fuels are incredibly harsh. In the future, implementing new policies on carbon emissions will make many developing countries not have enough carbon emissions indicators to develop. It will lead to new energy-saving energy sources, so our group chose this topic for environmental issues and carbon emissions issues. In the future, other energy-saving energy sources such as solar energy must be hot topics.
