What is your research question?

What are the impacts of fossil fuel spills from ships on marine waters and the importance of the attitudes held by different generations of Chinese people towards this situation for sustainable development?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

1. the impact of fossil fuel leakage from ships

2. the views of different generations

3. quantitative research

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Our group's research idea is to try to find a solution to the fossil fuel leak from the ship and to try to raise public awareness of the incident. From our research, we focus on the concern of different age groups and we want to see the attitude of the public towards fossil fuel leakage from their attitude towards this issue. We also looked at many academic resources to find the best solutions to fossil fuel leaks. So in general, we are looking for solutions and raising awareness.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

During our study, we found that much of the literature is about government and expert policies and opinions on the situation, but we did not find enough data on how the general population of different ages perceives the fuel spill issue. Therefore, we used quantitative survey to collect their attitudes in our research to fill out this gap.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

The fossil fuel spill problem is becoming a global issue, so it needs more people to be aware and give their views and personal experiences on the situation. It will allow governments and experts to study the views of the public or to propose policies that are more environmentally sustainable.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

I think that through our research, the dangers of fossil fuel leakage to the ocean will be more concretely presented to people. People will have a more detailed understanding of this issue, and thus they will formulate more rigorous strategies to protect the marine environment. The ocean can develop sustainably.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

We are interested in fossil fuel spill because firstly, we often see the mutation and pollution of marine life caused by oil spill on social media and internet. The second reason is that our group members live inland and have no access to the sea. The news accounts of the ocean are too fanciful for us, so the life of the sea is something we are eager to study, and we want to understand why fuel spills have a significant impact on the ocean and what contemporary society thinks about this phenomenon.
