What is your research question?

How does the increasing population of international students impact Canadian university’s education quality and economic sustainability?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Interview-based qualitative research, economic sustainability, international students and education quality

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

The idea was inspired by relevant studies that showed international students have significant economic potential values to the country offering education to them. Thus, the research aims to investigate and draw attention to the impacts of the increasing international student population on education quality in Canada from the economic sustainability perspective. Moreover, the research results could interpret the international students' possible contributions to education quality and supports to economic sustainability.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

Previous research on education quality and economic developments indicates that they are correlational (Chenben et al., 2020). Similar research by Siddiq (2009) has addressed financial problems and labour shortages in Canada. Yet, there is little published research on connecting international students' impact on education quality to economic sustainability. In this research, we will use the interview to fill the gap.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

As studying abroad and hosting international students has become a significant part of education, many potentials could benefit education quality and the local economy if we fill the gap. The research data will assist us in understanding the ways that international impact educational quality and economic sustainability.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

One main implication of this research is bringing more attention to international students' crucial role in education development in Canada. Thus, more future studies on this topic might be inspired by what we will find because economic sustainability is a practical, social and cultural event that influences most of us.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

Personal experience is the main reason for us to focusing on the impact of international students. Since every student researcher is an international student, we are excited to see if the education system can work best when international students are involved. Based on our experience of studying abroad, most of us curious about educational importance and its potential. When it comes to economic sustainability, we thought education is the best solution to have stable, infinite economic growth without impacting society and the environment in the future. We are thrilled to inspire more researchers to explore this topic further.
