What is your research question?

What is the relationship between household income and CO2 emissions from private cars, for the residents of Beijing?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Household income, private cars, carbon pollution

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

This project focuses on Beijing's climate issues and focuses on the relationship between Beijing residents' income and car carbon dioxide emissions. Based on factors such as different income groups have different travel needs, consumption concepts and other factors, we want to explore the impact of income on car carbon dioxide emissions.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

We found that studies have mainly focused on the impact of carbon emissions on air pollution through macroscopic perspectives like countries or cities. However, there is a relatively small body of literature that is concerned with carbon pollution at microscopic perspectives like individuals and families.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

Among the only studies on household carbon pollution, almost all of them are from developed countries such as North America and Europe, but not from China. Therefore, this study will fill this gap, and provides valuable references for policymakers to address carbon pollution issues.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

We hope that our results would help Beijing residents building awareness of their car using choices impact on the environment, improving the choice of travel within their own ability, and ameliorating the efficiency of public resources, so as to reduce pollution and promote the sustainable development of the environment.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

We have found that few people realize that income has a strong relationship with exhaust emissions. We estimate that people with higher income have higher carbon emissions. However, new energy vehicles will gradually become popular, and the higher the income, the more affordable it will be. So this research can help us understand the attitudes of different income groups to the status quo and new energy vehicles, which helps the government and other institutions to formulate more reasonable policies to meet the needs of various income groups as much as possible and reduce car carbon dioxide emissions. These excites us.
