What is your research question?

How does artificial meat slow the rate of climate changed as opposed to farmed meat, and what is the social acceptability of said meat in Beijing

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Artificial meat, climate change and social acceptability

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Our project involves interviewing people in Beijing to find out what they think about the link between artificial meat and climate change. It is also investigating whether artificial meat made from soy protein and animal liver cells could effectively reduce farm emissions and thus climate change. The study will use interviews to explore Beijing's social acceptability of artificial meat and link it to climate change mitigation.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

While there is plenty research on artificial meat, it’s still unclear what makes it more capable of slowing climate change than farmed meat. And the research of social acceptance to artificial meat mostly exists in Weste. The propose of our project is find the factors that make artificial meat generate the impact of climate and its social acceptability in Beijing.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

This proposed study will offer empirically-grounded understandings among artificial meat, climate change, social acceptability. First, discover factors that causes artificial meat mitigating climate crisis, these factors possibly can be adopted in other fields to diminish “crisis”. Then, reveal the current and allowed inferring future tendency of artificial meat in Beijing.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

Our exploration can provide suggestions to the development of artificial meat production lines, in Beijing and in other cities with similar conditions by analyzing answers from interviewees. Thus, we can investigate the possibility of reducing climate change by expanding the artificial meat market. Our project can be propagandistic for public.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

The artificial meat industry isn’t supported well in Beijing as well as China. High prices and bad quality are all obstacles for the industry to develop. (Fan, 2019) Our group is willing to be the advocator on boosting the development of artificial meat market among the society. By connecting the sustainability with artificial meat, we can furthermorereduce the acidifying emissions. (Pelletier, 2008) Improve Beijing’s air quality is also what we’ve been pursuing.
