What is your research question?

To what measure has China's plastic ban been effective in reducing the use of plastic domestically?

Research proposal keywords or concepts

Pastic, Method, Ban

How would you summarize your proposed research idea?

Plastic pollution is a huge problem that is increasing each year. There are many non-sustainable ways to halt plastic pollution but our group’s goal is to research an environmentally friendly way to this problem. Our research project examined Chinas plastic ban and looked at the changes in the use of plastic in businesses at Lingnan Xintiandi business district before and after the plastic ban’s promulgation through interviews from customers/employees.

Where is the literature gap and how does your proposed research attempt to fill that gap?

The gap in the literature we found was the results of the plastic ban after it was enacted. Therefore we are trying to explore the efficiency in the years it has been effective and see in the long run effectiveness in a country with plastic pollution. Our proposed research aims to discover this through interviews of local customers and employees.

Why is this gap worthy of research?

This gap is worthy of research because this method of enacting bans/laws is an environmentally friendly way to reducing plastic pollution. Our group is trying to find the effectiveness of using this method and whether if it’s really useful.

What future change could this research possibly contribute to, related to sustainability?

We hope our research will attract people to pay attention to ecological sustainability and become less consumers of plastic. Another impact is economic sustainability where countries focus on developing their technology for dealing with plastic pollution. Also, businesses with high plastic waste will start to hopefully find sustainable methods.

What made your group interested in and/or what excites you about your proposed topic?

Our group’s interest sparked when we researched how bad of a problem plastic pollution was becoming throughout the years in the world we live in. Environmental issues are a global issue, and plastic pollution is a major factor. We have noticed that the Chinese government has issued a stricter ban on plastic in 2020, and the Chinese government also refused to accept plastic garbage from other countries. All of this is connected to environmental issues, international situations, and sustainability.
