Steven Chen's Photo

Our team Consists of three members: Zhaoyu(Steven) Chen, Siuri Lai, Yuanyuan(Andre) Lai.

Here is our self-introduction!

My name is Zhaoyu(Steven) Chen, and I am a UBC, Vantage student. I always draw inspiration from my daily lives and ought to help others with possible countermeasures.  I have taken part in several volunteer programs addressing environmental sustainability education or food security, which promotes me to understand the sustainability issues we are facing better. I also have experience in research and have completed the URO REX research program of 2019-2020. Now, as a member of the 2020 Vantage Capstone planning committee, I am ready to use my research to possibly increase general health and relief the pressure on our food system. During my free time, I always sleep on the couch or play games on my computer.

A fun fact about me: I have a certain "superpower" --influencing others with my own emotions. That means I can make someone happy with a heart-warming conversation. Right now I am still trying to perfect my powers and soon it would allow me to execute actual mind control.

Siuri Lai 's photo

My name is Sirui Lai. I am a proud member of the lovely Group 9 of VANT 149. I come from the People's Republic of China and plans to study visual arts at UBC. This year, I spent my time at the Vantage College Arts program and collaborated with other members in Group 9 on research regarding the meat-alternative diet in Vantage College for the VANT 149 course. In my free time, I am passionate about painting, snowboarding, and volunteering.

A fun fact about me: I once spent 30 min with more than 20 sharks underwater during an ocean preservation program in Fiji. Also, I am the "visual designer" of this project.

Andre Lei 's photo

My name is Yuanyuan(Andre) Lei. On behalf of the global sustainability and to construct and improve the food system in Vantage college, I, as a responsible student and member in UBC, researched the topic of the food services for Vantage students. In this project, I want to use the real data to reflect the situation and search for the long-term solution. Since I am a meat lover, I believe it is crucial to find a way to balance nutrition, flavour and sustainability. In my free time, I always hang out with my friends, especially Siuri and Steven.

A fun fact about me: I am actually the one who eats most meat among three of the Group 9 members!

Introduction to our project

Our project focus on investigating what choice would Vantage student make, why these choices are made and how are we going to make a positive impact base on those choices. This study's result could potentially change Vantage College and even UBC food services, so we highly recommend you to take a look at our research poster to check it out!
