Orca-Whale-Watching

How can the harms of Orca-whale-watching tours be limited?

Our recent research revealed the negative attitudes of most of Vantage's international students toward Orca whale watching in Victoria and their suggestion on strengthening relevant policies for Orca whale watching's sustainable development.

Here are two videos to help you understand orca-whale-watching tourism.

Jeffery Zhou

I am the research investigator from Group 8. I am a committed environmentalist and have a keen interest in the sustainability of the marine. In recent years, I came from my hometown of China to study at UBC in Vancouver. During my life here, I noticed an exciting event. The event is that there are magical whales in the sea around Victoria. Through my research, the Salish Sea near Victoria is mainly populated by orca whales. My hometown was also a coastal city, but I had never seen a whale. So, while planning a whale watching trip, I am also actively thinking about whether whale watching will have an impact on marine sustainability.

My name is Zhou Zongtai. I was born in 2000 and a Scorpio. Since I grew up in central China, I have never seen what the ocean looks like, so I have been longing for the mystery of the ocean. After I learned that I was admitted by the UBC, I chose this seaside city without hesitation. This desire is also the main reason why the topic of this study was chosen, which is about the Marine life, Orca whale.

Yifan Gu

Hi guys, I am Yifan Gu, you are welcomed to call me Yif which sounds more concise. I am interested in learning all kinds of animals, which are good neighbours for human beings. As a result, after the discussion with my group members, we choose the topic on sustainability on marine project and focused on Killer-Whale-Watching. In this way, we can not only learn deeper in these orcas, but also propagandize the importance of protecting marine environment and the attention on sustainable development.

Yaoxuan Fu

Hello everyone, I am Yaoxuan Fu. I am really glad that I could be one of the members in Group and study about the Orca whale watching as a specific research part of the Marine tourism. I was born in Dalian, China which is also a coastal city just like Vancouver. Therefore, I am really interested in Marine tourism, and especially in our group topic about Orca Whale watching, even though I have not experienced the whale watching in the past. In the process of this research, I hope that I could learn a lot about the how to maintain the sustainable development of whale watching, and I also hope that our results and analysis of our group project could help in the aspect of improving the Marine ecosystem and maintaining biodiversity.
