Evelyn

Hello everyone, this is Evelyn from group 58. I’m interested in psychology and prefer to take this course as my major as well. The reason for me to choose this topic is that since human emotions may affect behaviors, also I’m curious about whether education will influence behaviors or not. Therefore, it will be interesting to research the relationship between behaviors of consumer with different levels of knowledge on awareness of sustainability and sustainable development. In addition, not only the environmental sustainability, but sustainable economic development as well. Also, as other members in our group, I have some interest in the economy, understanding consuming behaviors of consumers may help market development.

This is Abbott Zhu from Group 58. Under the influence of consumerism, I have a habit of excessive consumption. However, conspicuous consumption has increased the consumption of resources meaninglessly. Through the courses provided by vantage one arts, I realized that consumers are closely related to "sustainable consumption", and I think by understanding their consuming behaviors may be helpful on the future economic learning. Meanwhile, going Through this research, I believe it will guide people to make better development on the concept of "consumption sustainability".

Wayne

Wayne Wang

Hi, this is Wayne from Group 58. The reason for me to choose this topic because I see education and sustainability are tightly bonded together. The courses provided by vantage one arts were proof of that. The term “sustainability” was discussed in those courses on specific topics. Besides, I’m really interested in economy, which I plan to study as my major in the future. Sustainable economic development has great potential for the future development, and different education levels of consumers may have their own consumption habits. Therefore, research on this topic may also help further studies on economy.

Project Abstract

Objectives

As awareness of people on environmental protection increases, people gradually released the importance of protecting the environment, thus their shopping behaviors are gradually changing in real life. However, the phenomenon of unsustainable consumption still exists, since people prefer a more convenient life. In current days, university students as a major consumption group, their consuming behaviors and considerations when purchasing single-used goods like bottled water are more worth to study. Considering the possible impacts of consumer behaviors on future sustainable development, therefore, the purpose of our study is to investigate whether university students take sustainability into account when they purchase bottled water.

Method

By using a quantitative method, we will collect data from 40 participants (36 valid data) through survey questions. From the data we collected, we will make a column chart to show the frequency of different factors the students consider. Moreover, we will look at the percentages that participants prefer bottled water and tap water, and how much participants are aware of the idea of sustainability.

Results

participants who learned about the term from different levels of education and different promotion do not seem to change over years. Their concern for sustainability does not seem to strongly influence their choices around water consumption.

Conclusion

Whether has sustainable consumption habits do not have a big gap for people with different levels of education. School plays a decisive role in cultivating sustainable consuming habits of people, which should be paid more attention to.
