Kexin Zhang

Kexin Zhang's Bio

Hi, I am (Caroline) Kexin Zhang from Group 52. As an online shopping lover, I purchased a lot of items through the internet and apps, so that I found the packaging issue raised by the development of online consumption. I notice that the over-packaging and multi-packaging issues happen quite often because it is convenient for transportation and decreases the likelihood of losing parcels. However, the packaging is not friendly to our environment and against sustainable consumption, especially when users do not recycle them. Although I am interested in this topic, I am also unable to recycle everything and lack some sorting garbage knowledge. I have stopped using disposable tableware when I order food delivery at home, and I wish our findings can increase similar behaviors from our participants.

Chelsea Miao

Xingyi Miao's Bio

Hi, I am Chelsea from the group 52. I am from China, but living in Vancouver now. I extremely miss my family and hometown food during the COVID-19 period. Currently, I am staying in the school and studying the online summer courses. So we can have fun together! I like cooking and shopping online. Online shopping is quite prevalent among the teenagers. However, I seldom notice that most packaging materials are not biodegradable and recycled, which cause harmful impacts of wasted remaining packages on sustainability. Do you have the same experience as me? Thus, we aim to look at the attitudes and behaviours of other students towards recycling from online delivery. I am looking forward to seeing you at our presentation!

Eddie Lin

Eddie Lin's Bio

This is a sincere greeting from Eddie Lin, a first year UBC student studying Arts, who loves shopping, online, and in store. As the research topic of our project, online shopping and services may come along with massive amounts of delivery packages causing serious pollution to the environment. When I studied in high school back in China, one of the world's most polluted countries, I questioned myself what took people so long to realize the environmental issue. I did not find an answer until now that people are actually contributing in research of each individual behavior associated with sustainability. I’m very proud of our team that our research could contribute to the disclosure of packaging waste from the delivery industry, moreover calling on everyone’s awareness of the issue.

Huiqi Liu

Huiqi Liu's Bio

Hi everyone, I’m Huiqi. Normally, people are having a hard time pronouncing my name, but it sounds like “YK” in Cantonese, so I’m gonna go with YK here. I know everybody is having a hard time during this pandemic, thank you all for sparing your precious time to hear our research presentation and we wish you all safe and sound at home with loved ones. Environmental protection has long been a crucial topic these days, but at the same time, we found some companies which have huge responsibility for protecting the environment, like to call out slogans instead of taking action. Companies continue to over-packaging their products, which leads to tremendous waste. After noticing this, I started to take action to collect and reuse all the packages and encourage people around me to do the same. So, through this research, we hope we remind the “action” piece in everyone’s, including entrepreneurs, and face the fact that details in our life matters.

Tiffany Ngan

Tiffany Ngan's Bio

Hi, I'm Tiffany Ngan from Hong Kong. It's nice to meet everyone. I like exploring new and distinct restaurants. Unfortunately, I can't keep hunting for good food because of COVID-19. This makes me use more online delivery app for foods. However, the excessive packaging of delivered products bothered me a lot because of the matter of recycling. I hope to put effort on protecting the environment such as recycling all delivered packages but I am too lazy to do it. Are you facing the same situation as me? I'm excited to share our findings and thoughts with everyone.

Brief research introduction

We hope that, through our research, we can not only remind the importance of recycling in the aspect of maintaining sustainability to students but find out the attitudes toward recycling at our generation. This is a brief information for our research project titled "Students' Attitudes and Behaviours Towards Online Delivery Packaging" that we appropriate will interest you in attending our presentation on Monday afternoon. We will look forward to meeting with with you and discussing our research project together! See you there!
