Yuhan Jiang

My name is Yuhan Jiang. I usually like traveling and watching movies. When I saw the topic we were looking at, I decisively chose sustainability related to tourism. I have seen many documentaries before that record the beautiful environment of nature, but now many human activities have caused inadvertent damage to the environment. In this process, the rise of tourism also has an important impact on the global environment. I want to use this research to understand people's different views on tourism to ensure the sustainable development of tourism in the future.

Dongyi Geng

Hello everyone! I am Dongyi Geng and my prefer name is Krystal. I am a member of group 40 in Vantage 149. I am interested in the sustainability of the environment and the protection of the environment. I also want to realize more about how people can do something that is benefit for the environment in their daily life. I think this is the reason why I choose our group topic.

Wenzhe Liao
Wenzhe Liao

I am a research investigator from group 40. My name is Wenzhe Liao and my preferred is Ethan. I like traveling and I have been to many cities in China. Tourism has become an important economic component, but it has also become a “contribution” to the release of global carbon dioxide. I have noticed that people now have different choices of travel modes. I want to understand how different travel modes affect the environment and how to achieve sustainable tourism development.

Research Abstract

Objective:In most countries, tourism plays an important role and is an important part of world GDP. However, tourism is accused of pollution because tourism accounts for 5% of world CO2 emissions (Dogan &Aslan, 2017). With the development of tourism, the vehicles used in travel have a serious impact on the environment. The research of our group aims to understand how students view the impact of tourism on the environment and how sustainable tourism can be achieved. In this study, we wanted to investigate attitudes about the impact of tourism on the environment and whether people were taking measures to balance tourism and environmental sustainability. Our research focuses on specific factors that pollute the environment and people's attitudes towards tourism. By collecting data from different people in different places and understanding people's choice of transportation means to travel, experience can be gained to study the impact of tourism on the environment.

Method:The study designed by our team is to conduct a quantitative research project. We will use statistical analysis data once we have all survey responses collected. Our group used onlinesoftware “Qualtrics” to make the data collections. We invited 30 students from VANT 149 to select our study subject, and the age of participants is 18 or over 18 years old. Each student probably takes 15-20 minutes to complete our survey. We want to realize more about how students from VANT 149 have different perceptions about the positive and negative impacts of tourism on the environment in their daily lives.

Results:Canada’s future tourism industry will benefit from our research, and everyone who lives on this earth will also benefit. Tourism has caused pollution to the environment, but it has indeed improved the country's economic development. On this basis, whether people's attitudes towards tourism have changed. Traffic pollution is the most serious, so will the tourism industry need to change environmentally friendly and convenient ways in the future, or will the tourism industry propose to restrict travel in the future?

Conclusion:There are three most important takeaways that we find from our research. First of all, we want to let our participants to rethink their daily life and to see if there are something that can be actually saving. Secondly, we want people pay more attention about the environment. We want our participants to be aware of the pollutions that tourism create to the environment. Lastly, we want to persuade people use the green travel if it possible. All in all, the basic concept that we want to transmit to people are to let them understand the importance of our environment and do something good for the environment.
