ABSTRACT

To better achieve the goal of sustainability which refers to the ability of development in the long term in social, economic, and environmental aspects, which is a reaction to the tendency in decision making (Litman, 2006), our research is devoted to study the specific area about the sustainable development in the Vancouver Skytrain. Compared with the previous research which just presents the normal introduction about the sustainability of transportation, we will concentrate on the attitudes of international students, especially from the aspects of environment, economics, and society.

AIM

The aim of this research is to examine how Vancouver Skytrain can be made more efficient and sustainable based on the existing literature on transportation sustainability. The outcomes of this study would indirectly provide help to related companies in developing the system of the Vancouver Skytrain and bring merits to the passengers. In other words, we hope that this study will be combined with the content of the course to help Vancouver's sustainable transportation development and urge everyone to choose public transportation as a travel tool.

PROCEDURES

we will concentrate on the attitudes of international students, especially from the aspects of environment, economics, and society. And based the survey data, we will code it using the survey software, ‘Qualtrics’, and then have a further analysis for your response.

DATA ANALYSIS

Under 96% of the 27 survey participants who have taken the Canada Line, or own their bus passes, over 81% of the participants enjoy the journey of using the Canada Line as transportation. From the three aspects, including environmental, social, and economic sustainability, we can find that only 55.56% of the total 27 participants are satisfied with the economic sustainability of Canada Line. Meanwhile, participants who satisfied with the society and environment sustainability share similar average percentage. Overall, almost 70% of the 27 participants are satisfied with the Canada Line.

CONCLUSION

According to the survey answers, the Canada Line reaches the sustainability by being efficient, convenient, rapid, and cheap; however, it still need to add more lines and stops, add more detailed information about the train, be more efficient, lower the price, and change the strategy of charging to promote the development of its sustainability.
