Tuesday March 9th 2010 Experiment 1

Positives: The experiment was well designed and straight forward. The subsequent calculations were simple and the effects of each individual deposit into the public account were simple to understand. It was also interesting to see how large a role free riding can take and that it is almost always present. Even when communication was open and the group had the opportunity to monitor one another's deposits, there was almost always someone who would free ride.

Negatives: We found that 10 rounds for each treatment was too long and that by round 6 or 7 we began losing interest. Although communication was allowed in the second round, in the third round people were talking amongst themselves and it was never monitored.
