Course:SOIL515/Assignments

From UBC Wiki

There are two "groups" of assignments for this course - thematic review papers and watershed assessment reports.

Review papers: There are 6 short (500 word) review papers focused key topics covered in the course. These papers draw from both the course E-textbook and external literature sources. Topics include hydrology, water balance, water quality, water use and allocation, cumulative effects and water management.

Reports: There are 3 watershed reports in this course, which combined cover the major components of a watershed assessment and an initial assessment of potential management options. These reports are project oriented, building on concepts covered in the course E-textbook and tutorial (or discussion) sessions. In the initial weeks of the course you will select a watershed based on your area of interest. Report I focuses on water science; summarizing key issues in your watershed related to climate and stream flow, and includes consideration of variability. Report II emphasizes land use impacts on water quality, and goes more in-depth with respect to monitoring. In report III you are asked to assess cumulative effects and discuss relevant management options for your watershed.

Details for each assignment will be provided in canvas.
