There is a prudential reason to believe that P if and only if believing P would make you better off. This is independent of whether there is evidence to believe that P.

Nicholas Hughes: There is a prudential reason to believe in a higher power such as a God if believing in said God would make you better off. eg. you will go to 'Heaven' if you believe in said God
