Working with a research group, you will create a Wikipedia page on a topic related to syntax. Your participation in the Wikipedia project provides you with the opportunity to master and hone both conceptual, technical, and organizational skills. The conceptual skillset involves familiarizing yourself with a research area and planning out the content of the Wikipedia entry, The technical skillset includes writing, editing, layout, HTML mark-up and the “back door” of Wikipedia. The organizational skillset includes working as a team member and coordinating teamwork activities.

Schedule of meetings
The first two milestones of the Wikipedia projects focus on mastering the Wikipedia interface (Milestone 1), and familiarizing yourself with the content area of the Wikipedia entry that you'll be developing by preparing an annotated bibliography (Milestone 2). Once those are completed, your group will turn its attention to developing the content of the Wikipedia article. There are several resources available to assist you in doing this.
- Coverage: To ensure adequate coverage of their topic area, all groups should arrange to meet at least once with the UBC Linguistics librarian, Susan Atkey.
- Content: To develop content, each group will meet twice twice (in person) with the instructor (Rose-Marie Déchaine) or teaching assistant (Sihwei Chen) . Each meeting is 1/2 hour (30 minutes).
- The 1st round of content meetings will take place on Friday Oct 17th and Monday Oct 20th.
- The 2nd round will take place on Friday Oct 31st and Monday Nov 3rd.
- Technical support: each group will meet twice (via Skype) with Jonathan deVries, who will provide technical support relative to layout and formatting. Each meeting is 1/2 hour (30 minutes).
- The 1st round of technical support meetings will take place on Wednesday Oct 22nd, Friday Oct 24th, and Wednesday Oct 29th.
- The 2nd round will take place on on Wednesday Nov 5th, Friday Nov 7th, and Wednesday Nov 12th.
Each group participates in 5 meetings: one for topic coverage (with Susan Atkey), two for content (with Rose-Marie Déchaine or Sihwei Chen), and two for technical support (with Jonathan deVries). The overall schedule of meetings is given in the table below. (The detailed schedule of meetings is listed in the following subsections.)

Each Wikipedia research group has the opportunity to consult with Susan Atkey, the UBC Linguistics Librarian. The meetings are 1/2 hour (30 minutes); groups can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis.
Susan's office is located on the 2nd floor of Koerner Library in room 219. Go down one floor from the 3rd floor entrance and head straight towards the back. Room 219 is on the left hand side just before you reach the glass doors.
