TLEF planning

Possible models:

May 4 Meeting

  • Figure out what hardware to buy. I have $3000 for this, and will need advice from Angela as to what would be helpful for Arts ISIT.
    • Video: Camera that Novak mentioned (c. $800)
    • Audio: Lavier Mics x2 plus associated receiver (c. $1300) (Angela)
    • Tripod/monopod: $150
    • Lighting: No
    • Batteries
  • Decide on hiring RAs. I have two people identified already, though one can’t get going until the Autumn. So at least for the summer, I need someone, ideally with technical skills. Post this somewhere. (Where?) (Talk to people in visual arts?) (Steven Barnes?) (dept administrators?) (Will to investigate)
  • Narrow down options for video production, both
    • Software to use (and purchase if necessary?): Camtasia (second choice: iMovie)
    • format (though these need not be uniform): May vary depending on type of video. Students to be given assistance, but also allowed to make their own decisions.
    • look into Zaption / Pulsepress
  • Make some decisions about the website structure
  • Set up compare and contrast day (Novak)

Equipment Suggestions

  • Video:
  • Audio:
  • Tripod/monopod:
  • An SD card as extra storage. Depending on what you buy, some already have built-in storage but it may be handy to have another extra on hand in case you run out and don¹t want to delete anything you have already in the built-in storage. -64 gig memory card roughly $50
  • Depending what equipment you purchase, if it doesn¹t have an onboard shoe for peripheral attachments (ie. microphone) you may need to also buy an extra external device bracket such as this one.
  • A carrying-case or bag. Sometimes the equipment you buy won¹t necessarily come with one.

Software

  • Take a look at one of the tools that we developed called CLAS. Novak briefly mentioned it in our last meeting but in case you don¹t know much about it, here's a link. It'll be a useful took for users to upload their videos and have the instructor/peers to provide comments within the system. The tool can be embedded within your Wordpress site. I can demo this tool to you the next time I see you if you¹d like.
