Team 26 - Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Miniatures vs Zero-Sugar Reese's Miniatures

Introduction

Reese's Cups are a beloved candy that is well-known for their irresistable combination of chocolate and peanut butter. Many people savor the unique flavor of Reese's Cups, making them a staple treat for various occasions. One popular variant of this iconic treat is the Reese's Miniatures. These smaller but thicker versions deliver the same delicious peanut butter punch, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite treat in a bite-sized form. Recognizing the growing demand for healthier snack options, Reese's has introduced an alternative product that reduces the amount of sugar while maintaining its signature taste, catering to those who seek a healthier option without having to compromise on the flavor. This innovation ensures that Reese's continues to be a favorite among both tradional candy lovers and health-conscious consumers alike.

Compare and contrast the lists of the two products and explain differences

Sweeteners: The Reese’s miniatures have no sugar substitutes, but the Reese’s no sugar has Maltitol, Lactitol (Milk) and Sucralose which provides the sweeter taste. Maltitol and Lactitol is a sugar alcohol that allows for the chocolate to have a sweet taste with fewer calories. The Reese’s no sugar also have Polydextrose which is a low-calorie bulk sweetener.

Flavoring: The Reese’s no sugar has both natural and artificial flavoring, for customers who prefer a more natural supplement in their snack and to enhance the flavor. The Reese’s miniatures have artificial flavoring known as Sucralose (a sweetener) which offers the consistent sweet taste for customers.

Additives: From an additives standpoint between these two snacks, the Reese’s no sugar and the Reese’s miniatures share TBHQ, PGPR, Citric Acid and Lactitol. As the TBHQ and citric acid allow for the chocolate to maintain a fresh component, the PGPR enhances the chocolates texture. However, the Reese’s no sugar also contains additional additivites, such as: Cellulose Gel, Polydextrose, Sodium Caseinate (Milk), and Natural & Artificial Flavor. Cellulose gel helps with the chocolates thickness and stability whereas the Sodium Caseinate is a milk protein to act as an emulsifier.
