Course Description
THis course involves readings and critical examination of key topics in the field of Animal Welfare. Students are responsible for leading discussions on topics of their choice. Class meets for approximately 3 hours per week. Evaluation is based on class leadership, presentations, and two assignments (an essay and lay article or website).
This course is offered in the Fall term and registration requires permission of the instructors. For further information, please contact Dr. Dan Weary.
Assignment Topics
Choice of topics will be based on the interests of the participants, but previous topics have included the following:
- Welfare of farmed fish
- Animals in film
- Niche marketing of welfare
- Veal calf production
- Welfare issues in developing countries
- Links between animal cruelty and domestic violence
