I thought your choice of topic was very interesting and relevant and I enjoyed reading your page! In your overview I would include a citation where it says “most university recorded sexual violences occur at fraternity parties”. I would also say that frat parties are so popular because in the united states the drinking age is 21 so all undergrad students are looking for somewhere to party because they can’t go to clubs. Under the fraternities subhead, I’m not sure if it makes sense to say frats are similar to universities in the comparison you used. I would just say what a fraternity is instead of comparing them to universities. Under the John Enochs case I would explain how this is just one of many cases or explain how this is an example of using “hookup culture” as a defense (the alcohol consumption) that is so prevalent in frats. Is John Enochs in a frat? If so you should say so, and if he isn’t then you should choose a different case to use as an example. Under hegemonic masculinity in the Greek system, I was explain how the greek system is patriarchal. I would include on your page some examples of names of frat parties, for example: “yoga hoes and workout bros”. Almost all names include sexualizing women and therefore gives that expectation from the get go.

Hello Thank you for your posting. I felt your posting was very interesting because at UBC we have fraternities and sororities, myself having friends from both. I think for the causes of sexual assault at Frat parties are heavily correlated to alcohol consumption and potential drug use, but I like how you bring up the point of the "hooking up" and how that idea exists which makes many individual think of certain actions of acceptable. I think the overall layout of you wiki article can be laid out a little smoother so it could be almost told in an order or story. I would strongly suggest maybe putting up some quotes from individuals effected.

I thought that this was a very unique topic and there are multiple cases of sexual violence at these type of parties. Another aspect you could mention might be hazing because there are also many cases of sexual violence occurring when new members of frats are being initiated. This source might be of help to you as well: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/04/11/former-cornell-fraternity-president-gets-probation-in-sex-offense-case/?utm_term=.8785abb2cd1d ; the former president of a Fraternity at Cornell was involved in a sex offense case... it could be relatable to what is allowed to happen in these fraternities. Great page so far!

Very interesting wiki! You've picked a topic that is extremely relatable for your audience and relevant to this class. I only have a couple of pointers. 1. Be very careful not to overgeneralize. You might want to re-word the first sentence about fraternity houses being "one of the only places where all university students are able to drink alcohol..." - it doesn't sound completely factual (not all university students are of legal drinking age), and the sentence itself is rather wordy. 2. I would also be tempted to reword your section called "Causes of Sexual Violence at Fraternity Parties," - maybe to "An Environment Conducive to Sexual Violence" or something similar. Also - you're going to need some sources to back up the claims you made in that section. I'm sure you're working on it!

You might find this wiki article on style and clarity useful. Check out the sections on peacock and weasel words in particular. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Clarity

Hope this helped!

This is an interesting article and a highly debated topic, I like many of the points that you have brought into the debate. My one area of concern would be under the heading “Causes of Sexual Violence at Fraternity Parties”. I think that although we can discuss and come up with potential reasons for acts like this, we cannot concretely conclude any of these as factual. Many of the statements under this heading are assumptions and stereotypes. Whether they are true or not, this section of the article seems to be lacking any academic references, and relies mostly on opinion and judgement. I think it is great to bring this to a point of attention and discussion, but I think that it is important that we cannot generalize and make assumptions without evidence to conclude these ideas (perhaps some statistics or studies that have been done).

Hello!

This is an interesting topic and it was an interesting read. Have you considered formatting your Wiki Page to include an easy-to-click Reference section? This is when your in-text citations have numbered superscripts that connect to your Reference section. You can find out how to do this here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Referencing_for_beginners

I would be curious to see you look into what universities and other educational institutions are doing to solve sexual violence in Fraternity parties. Perhaps include this information as a conclusion? It would be nice to see examples of local universities such as UBC, and how these institutions are attempting to help or prevent sexual violence on campus.

I think you could have better organization of your topics and the structure of how your examples or case studies are incorporated into the content of the page. For example maybe have a header that says Campus Assault In The News or something along those lines and include the alcohol consumption section in the University Campus Culture section. Create a logical flow in your structure so that it is easy for the reader to pinpoint different categories within the topic and dissect information from your wiki page. Hope this advice helps, good luck!
