Positive Qualities of Strong Policy
- Purpose of policy as first thing
- delegates authority and responsibility (in terms of office)
- Changes to policy will be posted (but should say where)
- Show changes to policy (revisions) within document itself
- Attempt to define terms used within policy
- Defines scope of what the policy cover
- Balanced in terms of readability and vagueness
- Specific Examples
Qualities to Avoid
- Language that undermines the importance/purpose of policy
- Conflicting statements
- Ineffectual enforcement language
- Avoid jargon (understandable definitions that don't include the jargon within the definition)
