Summary
Description | English: (E): If the host immune system cannot keep the bacteria under control, the granuloma breaks down and the bacilli begin to multiply and spread through destruction of lung tissue. The bacteria may also enter the pulmonary capillaries, which form an extensive network around alveoli, and cause disseminated TB. In this case, the patient will present with symptoms characteristic of active TB disease (e.g. fever, chills, night sweats, chronic productive cough). |
