-----TRANSCRIPT----- Victoria V.I. Apl. 15. 1863 R Fisk Esqr Dear sir Will you please make inquires & inform What you can get for . Soda ash. There has been inquiries for this article from San Francisco among others a gentleman connected with [Mr] Redington &Co-- Therefore I presume it to be in demand & sale able in your place. There is a lot of [coming] now from England and it cannot be sold here It is used for making [soap] and is different from [sal] soda find out as near as possible What you can get for it and what the duty is and if there is anything in it I will buy it Yours Truly JA McCrea Description: This letter to Royal Fisk was written by J.A. McCrea in Victoria, Vancouver Island on April 15, 1863. McCrea inquired about a trade in soda ash (used to make soap) after receiving inquiries from San Francisco (including from Reddington & Co) for it. McCrea indicated there is some arriving from England that cannot be sold in Victoria, and suggested he would purchase it if it would be profitable.
