Hi,

Interesting topic but I feel its too broad. It would be nice if you could either narrow down the topic or mention in your introduction what exactly are you planning on covering under objectification and Violence. For instance, when it comes to objectification, women are objectified in movies, advertisements etc and not just pornography. If you plan on focussing how women are objectified in pornography, then it'll be better if you narrow down the topic and go in detail. However, its just a draft but you can definitely keep these pointers in mind when working on your final version.

Goodluck on the assignment!

Hi, I enjoyed looking over your draft. I really like your choice of topic but watch out for some of those longer sentences because it makes it harder to process all of your information. It is hard to tell from your introduction what your narrow topic is so I suggest editing the over all structure so it's more chronological and previewing each topic you'll address in the introduction. I know this is just your draft copy but it's something to keep in mind when you're working on the final version! Also any visual aids will make it more engaging for the reader. Another thing I noticed was you mention the "intersectionality of gender being put on women" in your first/second paragraph. What exactly do you mean by that? Intersectionality is a framework that encompasses all the different ways in which forms of oppression can intersect. I would definitely suggest you clarify you use of the word and how it applies to objectification and violence on women.

The objectification of women in pornography has been alarming subject that has likely led to increases in abusive behaviour towards women due to the concept of male hegemony and dominance that is often displayed. Videos with such content are all over the Internet and can influence viewers into thinking that such behavior is acceptable in society, leading to further gender degradation. I am looking forward to reading your wiki after you update the sexual violence section. It could be interesting if you look at the effects of objectification of women through advertisements, as we see it everywhere in society. Overall though, great start!

Hi there, Great choice in topic! This is a topic that is very important to be aware of and educated in in today's society and ties back into a lot of the things we have been learning about in class. For your final post, I would go back and try to create a better structure of your post. For example, ensuring grammar is correct with correct placement of commas and periods. Another area to go over was the reference page and linking your references into your post by their numbers, so that if you click on that number it will direct you to the reference sheet and tell you which one it came from. Also just making sure the last area you will be speaking about is filled in and complete. I know this is only a draft, but for the final post these things will most likely make a big difference in the grading! As well as if you have time maybe add some pictures in to give it a more visual side for the audience! But it is a very good topic to choose!

Hi there!

I'm really glad to see that you've chosen such an important topic for this assignment that is incredibly relevant to themes we have discussed in this course and in current events happening within the UBC community and our society at large. As you are still laying down the framework of your Wiki, I would suggest including advertisement/media objectifications of women, as there is plenty of research on the topic and, due to its widespread audience, it has a significant impact on the perceptions of women. Furthermore, as one of our fellow classmates mentioned, in order to establish intersectionality I believe discussing the relationship between race and gender, such as in the case of missing and murdered Indigenous women, is critical to presenting a comprehensive analysis and serves to reinforce the relevance and impact of this issue. Great start, I can't wait to see the final product!

An interesting and important topic you have chosen. Your statistics section is very informative and shocking at the same time. As it looks as you are still in the early stages of creating your page, inserting wiki links to certain concepts you might address is helpful for the reader to get a fully-detailed explanation of the concept from another page. Additionally, from an intersectional approach, expanding on topic of the missing and murdered Aboriginal women and the particular reasons as to why they are "6 times more likely to be killed, in comparison to a non-Aboriginal woman" as you mention, might make for an interesting/informative read. Great start!

Hi, you have a very good introduction to your topic, and I believe this topic is very critical as this violence is continuing all around the world. That being said, you should compare and contrast the seriousness of this situation in different countries and between different races. You can look at the ways that these countries are trying to improve this situation for women. I appreciate that you provide statistics which is very effective to get an outlook on this situation. You could also maybe add a section about how men are victims of violence as well and the impact it has created on them.
