Exploitation and the BC Teachers' Strike

Marx reveal the exploitative social relationship between the workers and the owners. The exploitation of labour continues to exist in the contemporary capitalist society. The labour dispute between BC teachers and provincial government happened two years ago, which arose from the exploitation of the teachers. Long before the strike, the Liberal government of BC "tore up" the teachers' contract in which many of the discussed issues on the table were protected. This enabled the government to increase class sizes, get rid of support services for students with special needs and, and freeze wages. The teachers struggled to gain back the rights they once had regarding class sizes. Increasing class sizes and including students with special needs in their classes without any additional support increased the teachers' workloads and decreased their satisfaction with their jobs. The teachers were not being adequately paid for the work they were doing. The government forced the teachers to handle the heavy workload without increasing their wages, which ultimately provoked the protest from the teachers.
