Stewart Brand spoke at UBC on the topic of sustainability as part of the part of the UBC Reads Sustainability lecture series. This session was recorded on Tuesday, Oct. 5th, 2010, at the Liu Institute of Global Issues, UBC.

Founder of the Whole Earth Catalog, the Global Business Network, the Long Now Foundation and the Well, writer, editor and game designer, Stewart Brand has helped to define the collaborative, data-sharing, forward-thinking world we live in now. In his newest book, Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto (annotated web version), he compiles reflections and lessons learned from more than 40 years as an environmentalist. Brand suggests a shift in the environmentalists’ dogmatic approach and describes a process of reasonable debate and experimentation. His iconoclastic proposals include transitioning to nuclear energy and ecosystem engineering, sure to provoke widespread debate.
