Family politics of gender inequality

This theory posits that the internalized sexism of women in positions of authority in families can shape these women’s responses to girls’ reports of sexual abuse. Adult women who have internalized sexism (to devalue femininity) may be indifferent, dismiss, or refuse to believe a girl’s report of sexual violence at the hands of an uncle (see Gonzalez-Lopez).
