English: Figure 1. Depicts the number of whales hunted by species from 1900 to 2000 in both the northern and southern hemisphere. Around 300,000 whales were taken from 1700 to 1800 and this quota was matched in just over 60 years during the 20th century introduction of diesel engines and harpoons.
