English: The type III secretion system toxins ExoS, ExoU, ExoT, and ExoY are secreted into macrophages and epithelial cells of lung alveolar tissue. The toxins inhibit lymphocyte phagocytosis and causes disruption to tissues, leading to acute lung injury.
