Chicken Sunday / Patricia Polacco.

Three children want to buy Miss Eula a beautiful new Easter hat. When they approach the hat maker to offer to do chores to earn the money, they are mistakenly blamed for a prank. They later convince him of their innocence and earn money for the hat by selling Ukrainian Easter eggs inside his shop. He surprises them by giving them the hat for free. From looking at the illustrations, I would guess that Polacco uses various mediums in her illustrations: pencil, pen, watercolours, and acrylics. As well, she pastes real black and white photographs in several of her illustrations.
