A 2-day workshop open to all members of the UBC teaching community
Overview: In November, 2002, several TAG staff members attended a professional development event, at which they explored a new multi-day workshop on the use of narrative. After more professional development and conversations with the original designers, Glynis Wilson Boultbee and Cheryl King, the 2-day Narrative Skills Workshop was launched in April 2005. Colleagues from many teaching and teaching support roles, and a large variety of disciplines, have participated to date.
The workshop: The Narrative Skills Workshop (NSW) explores how we can weave a powerful narrative strategy into teaching and learning, strategically incorporating it to achieve desired learning goals. Many of us already use narrative in our teaching: either by asking students for their stories or by telling our own. This experiential workshop provides opportunities to share various kinds of stories, receive feedback on a narrative-structured lesson you design and lead, and identify ways to use narrative in the classroom whatever your discipline.
Facilitators: The team includes members of the graduate student and the faculty Instructional Skills Workshop facilitator team, who have taken the NSW and special training to be NSW facilitators.
When: Offered twice a year. When dates for the next NSW are set, they will be posted to the TAG Listserv and on this website.
