== '''Sign up for your Mini Lesson''' ==
I have booked the rooms for Weeks 9 and 10, so you can teach your mini lessons. See below for the rooms we'll be teaching in.

* '''Please add your name to one of the rooms below''', in Week 9 (Oct 31) or Week 10 (Nov 7).
* You will teach your lesson on that date '''in the order listed''' in the table (Teacher 1 goes first)
* The other students who sign up to teach in your room will be your students
* You will be a student for the other teachers who sign up in your room.
* Note that since we're running lessons over two weeks, there will be 6 people in your room on both weeks, 3 of whom will be teachers in Week 9 and the other 3 of whom will be teachers in Week 10. (For Group 4, with 7 people, you'll have 3 in Week 9 and 4 in Week 10)

Please indicate whether you'll be doing a '''30 min or 45 min''' lesson. Note that for groups with 7 members, there will be limited time in the second week of teaching, with four teachers, so if you would like to do a 45 minute lesson, please sign up for the first week (Oct 31).

Since we have 25 students in the class, this means we'll have four groups of six and one group of 7.
Extra Backup Room: SCRF 204A

Should anything be amiss with the above classrooms, we have a backup room, as noted above, which we can use if we need to.

'''Equipment needed:'''

For your lesson, you may need an '''adaptor''' for the projector (Fiona has one she can lend if you have a mac). The port needed is HDMI or VGA.

We will be recording the lessons, and Fiona has booked the two '''recorders''' that SLAIS owns, as well as two '''tripods'''. However, if you don't want to use those, or you don't get one (there are only two recorders), you will need to have an alternate means to record your lesson. I also want each student to have a '''backup device''' for recording (can be a phone, a peer's computer, etc.) in case the main recording fails (as has happened in the past).

If you want to use Fiona's '''white board markers''', please let her know. You can also borrow her '''portable white boards''' if you like - be sure to give her advanced notice as she doesn't always bring them with her.

'''Instructions:'''

Please put the names of your group members into one of the boxes below. Next to "TOPIC" please put what the video will be about. Next to "ORGANIZATION/LIBRARY" please tell me who you'll be making the video for (i.e. Who is your client?).

If you need more lines in your group's table, you'll see arrows on the left of the table when you click on it. Click on the left arrow and insert a line. See the image below:
[[File:Screen Shot 2025-08-31 at 4.15.24 PM.png|thumb|alt=Image showing the menu options when you click on the table|384x384px|Adding a row to your table|none]]

If you don't have a group and want to sign up and simply see who else signs up with you, that works too.

'''Each group should have between 3 and 5 members'''. With 25 people in the class...

* Groups of 3 will mean eight groups (with one group of 4)
* Groups of 4 will mean six groups (with one group of 5)
* Groups of 5 will mean five groups.

I have included space for 8 groups, but don't feel you have to fill all the tables. Just leave blank any tables we don't need.

'''NB:''' Please be sure that your topic revolves around what the client wants. Ask the client and see what they come up with. If you have a suggestion for them about a tutorial you think would work, that's great - you can make that suggestion - but be sure to give way if they don't want to do that and have another project in mind for you.

Also ('''VERY IMPORTANT'''), please do not begin work on your project until you've checked with Fiona. Sometimes a site will want something done that is a valid project but not appropriate for our course. Please check with Fiona first, and once she has given the "okay", you can begin working on it.

'''Potential Clients:'''

Note that '''Out on the Shelves''' is a client students have worked with in the past that will likely be happy to have more work done by this class as they are entirely dependent on volunteers. Also, '''Mission Archives''' and '''Surrey Public Library's Genealogy Department''' and '''BCLA''' may be possible, if any of those appeal to you. Please talk to me if so. Students who have jobs in various '''UBC Library branches''' have also used those libraries as clients in the past. If you have a job at a library, that might be a good place to start as they may want some work done. If you're not coming up with ideas about who to work with, please let me know and I may be able to assist. Ideally, you want to get started on this project sooner rather than later.
