In Kaltura instructors and students in a course can view, publish and share videos in '''''Connect''''' and in the various [http://elearning.ubc.ca/toolkit/kaltura/kaltura-overview-quicksheet/ galleries available]. Videos can be applied to course content, assignments, lectures, etc. to enrich and improve learning and teaching. For example, instructors can include video in an assignment or content item and students can use videos to respond to a discussion post or submit an assignment.

You can upload a video directly into course content with the Mashups tool. In addition, you can upload a video from Course Gallery and My Media.

*Running a [blank] search will show all available videos when publishing a video via the Mashup Tool or as a standalone item.
*When deleting a standalone video item in a course, the video will still exist in your My Media and/or Course Gallery (if added there previously).
*Create a standard hashtag for your course and notify all course members about it.
*Assign video categories and add metadata to easily locate files later. For recommended guidelines on metadata, click [http://elearning.ubc.ca/connect/instructor-resources/course-content/kaltura-guidelines-for-metadata/ here].
*Keep in mind that adding a video to the Faculty Repository means that all UBC faculty are able to view it.

For British Columbia, natural gas is a critical component of the energy sector. In 2018 the province made the decision to implement infrastructure to produce and export liquified natural gas, known as the LNG project, to global markets (Zussman & Ferreras, 2018).

The combustion of natural gas emits considerably lower amounts of carbon dioxide than fossil-fuel and coal alternatives, showing promise as a climate change mitigation strategy (Zoelle et al., 2015). Natural gas has potential as a ‘transition fuel’ that can be used to shift energy consumption from fossil-fuel sources (Levi, 2013).

However, there are concerns regarding the harmful processes required to extract and transport natural gas. The liquefaction of natural gas uses large amounts of energy, offsetting some of the potential benefits (Luke & Noble, 2018). Additionally, extracting natural gas from shale reserves, through the process of fracking, releases large amounts of methane gas (Graham, 2017).

In the short term, LNGs could have a reasonably small impact on world GHG emissions; however, if their use continues in the long-term, there is a potential for a large negative impact on overall emissions (Marc, 2012). British Columbia’s investment in natural gas is more likely to accelerate climate change than mitigate its effects.

In British Columbia there is a large focus on natural gases(LNGs) as a new source of energy to help reduce greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions. When combusted coal and oil emit 90.87g/MJ and 74.58g/MJ of CO2 respectively. These values are almost double that of LNG, which emits 49.88g/MJ of CO2. (National Energy Board, 2018) The mining and transport of LNGs also produces GHGs, releasing methane, CH4, instead of CO2. These leaks in processing have made it hard for scientists to calculate the amount of methane being released. 2017 measurements from just British Columbia estimate the release of 111,800 tons of methane annually. (Atherton, et al., 2017)
One major concern with this large scale release of methane is that it has a greater warming power than carbon dioxide. Using the most recent estimates from the IPCC methane has a GWP of 86 on a 20 year scale and 34 on a hundred year scale.(Howarth 2014) Global warming potential (GWP) is a measure of how much energy the emissions of 1 ton of a gas will absorb over a given period of time, relative to the emissions of 1 ton of carbon dioxide (CO2). The GWP scale for methane is much lower in a hundred year time period than the twenty year time period because of how long the gas will remain in the atmosphere, only about a decade. Carbon dioxide lasts in the atmosphere for much longer, with estimates claiming that it could last thousands of years. (United States Environmental Protection Agency, n.d.)

The Office of Premier Horgan professes a commitment to “reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 40% below 2007 levels by 2030, and by 80% by 2050”, but climate watchdogs like the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives don’t believe this is true. “The BC government seems determined to break its own law on GHG emissions”. The chief concern groups like the CCPA have with BC policy is the goalpost-moving on emission targets, and a lack of focus on the negative effects of natural gas mining. == The Kitimat Project ==
The Kitimat project in British Columbia is a 40-billion-dollar deal for a natural gas pipeline to the west coast for export. It is the single largest private sector investment in the history of Canada. The project will start in northeastern BC, the line will begin near Dawson Creek and go 670 kilometers to Kitimat, where the gas will be liquefied in a plant to be built there. Construction is already underway, there is a natural gas liquefaction station already built, soon a pipeline and a terminal for export will be built too.
===The Product===
LNG is produced by cooling natural gas (consisting mostly of methane) to minus 162 degrees Celsius in order to make it a liquid. LNG takes up 1/600th of the space that it takes up in its gaseous state. The export facility would take in up to 3.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day and produce up to 19.2 million tonnes of LNG a year.
===The Environmental Impact===
The draft environmental report released in February estimated that the LNG facility would result in the equivalent of 5.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide being released a year. That would add 8.5 percent to B.C.’s total emissions. Upstream emissions, including the gathering of the natural gas, are estimated to add the equivalent of 6.5 million to 8.7 million more tonnes of CO2.
===The Costs===
The entire Pacific NorthWest LNG project is estimated to cost $36 billion. That includes about $11 billion for the export terminal, $6.5 billion in pipelines, the $5.5 billion Petronas spent buying Progress Energy, and the roughly $2 billion a year the consortium would spend on drilling and production of natural gas to get the project fully operational.

Asian buyers are replacing coal with gas, which indicates there will be a huge need for natural gas. On the other hand, this is an advancement when it comes to responsible environmental development, climate change knows no border, and as Canada is helping to reduce and replace coal fired plan around the world, with LNG done properly and responsible. It demonstrates that Canada is thoughtful about where the world is going.

For British Columbia, natural gas is a critical component of the energy sector. In 2018 the province made the decision to implement infrastructure to produce and export liquified natural gas, known as the LNG project, to global markets (Zussman & Ferreras, 2018).

The combustion of natural gas emits considerably lower amounts of carbon dioxide than fossil-fuel and coal alternatives, showing promise as a climate change mitigation strategy (Zoelle et al., 2015). Natural gas has potential as a ‘transition fuel’ that can be used to shift energy consumption from fossil-fuel sources (Levi, 2013).

However, there are concerns regarding the harmful processes required to extract and transport natural gas. The liquefaction of natural gas uses large amounts of energy, offsetting some of the potential benefits (Luke & Noble, 2018). Additionally, extracting natural gas from shale reserves, through the process of fracking, releases large amounts of methane gas (Graham, 2017).

In the short term, LNGs could have a reasonably small impact on world GHG emissions; however, if their use continues in the long-term, there is a potential for a large negative impact on overall emissions (Marc, 2012). British Columbia’s investment in natural gas is more likely to accelerate climate change than mitigate its effects.
