The UBC Mahjong Club

The UBC Mahjong Club is a social leisure and hobby club located at the University of British Columbia. As part of its mandate, the club is committed to providing a friendly, continuously open, mahjong social experience for students and community members. As neighbours to Vancouver the club partakes in community outreach through seniors programs and Chinatown renewal programs, as members of NARMA (North American Riichi Mahjong Association) the club annually hosts the Vancouver Open Riichi Tournament for the entire North American west coast[1], and as a student society the club is known for being open to its members every weekday during the winter school session for socialising and playing mahjong. The club also organises social outings and gatherings for its members.

History

Since it's inception in 2008, the club has been host to hundreds of members and is one of the most active clubs on campus. Initially located in the basement of the Student Union Building, the club moved in 2015 into room 3206B in the newly constructed Student Nest.
