Slight noise

From UBC Wiki

The slight noise sounded as if it were close by, even around the corner, maybe. However, after he entered into the house, he discovered that the sound was yet a ways off. As he walked further and further into the house, the noise grew louder and louder. No soul was in sight, yet he knew that someone, or something, must exist in this house in order for there to be a noise.

As he approached the aged staircase, he noticed a slight movement atop the stairs. Bigger than a mouse, but smaller than an adult, he decided to go in search of the shadow atop the stairs. Step by step, he paced himself slowly up the stairs, in search of absolution to the noise. As he approached the top of the stairs, he discovered a small child at the end of the hall. As he stood in awe, the small child waved to him, indicating for him to turn around. As he did so, he discovered only one room, with a dim light being emitted from it. He slowly approached the room, the door slight ajar. As he opened it, the slight noise got louder and louder...

Quickly, he opened the door only to be faced with an empty loom, being blown by the wind. He turned back around to thank the child, yet she was nowhere to be found. He searched high and low, but yet there was no little child.

Only years later, did he realize that this little child would in turn turn out to be his yet-to-be born child.
