New Taiwanese Generation

From UBC Wiki

The UBC New Taiwanese Generation (NTG) is a half-social-half-cultural student club organization at the University of British Columbia (UBC) that aims to foster a sense of community among Taiwanese students and promote Taiwanese culture on campus. NTG serves as a platform for students to connect, engage in cultural activities, and celebrate their Taiwanese heritage.

UBC NTG welcomes students from all backgrounds, not just Taiwanese individuals, who are interested in learning about and experiencing Taiwanese culture. Through a variety of events and initiatives, the club seeks to raise awareness and appreciation for Taiwanese traditions, history, language, and customs. One of the key objectives of UBC NTG is to create a supportive and inclusive environment for Taiwanese students studying at UBC. They offer opportunities for networking, socializing, and forming lasting friendships through regular gatherings, workshops, and social events. These activities provide a sense of home away from home and help Taiwanese students navigate their university life in a foreign country.

NTG also focuses on promoting cultural exchange and understanding by organizing events that showcase Taiwanese culture. They often collaborate with other student organizations, both Taiwanese and non-Taiwanese, to host cultural events and games. These events not only introduce Taiwanese culture to the UBC community but also encourage cross-cultural dialogue and appreciation. The club's inclusive nature encourages members to embrace diversity and build bridges with individuals from various backgrounds.

Ultimately, UBC NTG is more than just a student club—it is a transformative experience that enriches the lives of its members. It creates lasting memories, cultivates personal and professional development, and instills a sense of pride in Taiwanese heritage. Through its vibrant and inclusive community, UBC NTG continues to be a beacon of support, inspiration, and connection for young adults at UBC and in the wider community.

NTG Exchange Program (NTGx)

The New Taiwanese Generation Exchange Program, initiated by UBC NTG, is an innovative pilot program aimed at addressing the evolving needs of students in the global job market. Recognizing the limitations of traditional education in preparing individuals for today's rapidly changing world, NTG seeks to enhance the overall competency of Taiwanese students by fostering a global vision.

As a group of Taiwanese students, NTG deeply values Asian issues, particularly those concerning Taiwan. Despite the individual talents, intelligence, and education of Taiwanese students, the overall competency of the nation as a whole has not seen consistent improvement. Addressing this complex issue requires multifaceted approaches, and one of the areas NTG aims to tackle is expanding students' global perspectives. The primary goal of NTGx is to inspire the next generation of Taiwanese university students and broaden their minds through immersive experiences and connections. Thanks to the support of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, NTGx has organized a program that will bring 24 Taiwanese university students to Vancouver during their winter break, specifically from January 21st to February 15th, 2019.

Vision

  • Helping new generation of Taiwanese students to broaden their horizon, opening their vision to a global market, international education and intercultural society.
  • Bringing Taiwanese culture and traditional Chinese values to local Vancouverites, promoting true cultural exchange.

Mission

  • To provide opportunities for Taiwanese students to come abroad and gain new perspectives of the global society.
  • To establish global connections and networks for Taiwanese students and lower-mainland students, and demolish the burden between the students of the two continents

What It Will Look Like

During weekdays, students will participate in full-time English courses at the UBC English Language Institute, equipping them with essential language skills for global communication. In the evenings and on weekends, the program will offer a range of networking and exploration events. These events include kick-off and closing ceremonies, networking opportunities with local professionals and Taiwanese residents, social gatherings with student clubs from diverse cultural backgrounds, seminars on living in North America and career planning, as well as guided tours around Vancouver.

Through these carefully curated events, NTGx aims to provide participants with inspiration, motivation, and new perspectives. By immersing students in an international educational environment, facilitating networking opportunities, and exposing them to different cultural contexts, the program strives to equip them with the tools needed to succeed in an increasingly globalized world. NTGx represents a commitment to the development of Taiwanese students, helping them broaden their horizons, strengthen their competencies, and expand their connections. By providing a platform for learning, networking, and exploration, the program seeks to empower the next generation of Taiwanese university students, instilling in them a global vision and nurturing their potential for future success.
