Biography

Hannes Koch is the co-founder and director of rAndom international, a London-based studio that creates artworks and instillations that focus on behavior, reaction and intuition in relation to natural phenomena and the human form[1]. As a director at rAndom international, Koch's maintains the studio's creative autonomy through his focus on the formal aspects and surrounding contexts of their projects. Koch is driven towards cognition and human behavior, and its underlying principles. These interests are reflected in the studio's creations. [2] In 2012, Hannes Koch spoke to the idea of artificial intelligence TED Talks: TEDxBerlin, discussing how simulated natural behavior affects the relationship between man and machine [3].


rAndom international

Founded in 2005 by contemporary artists and Royal College of Art alumni Hannes Koch, Stuart Wood, and Florian Ortkass, rAndom international studio is based in London and includes a growing team of artists with specialized interests. The studio produces artwork and interactive instillations that explore human cognition and behavior and technological interaction, often through the use of light and movement. [4] Viewer participation is a crucial aspect of rAndom international's instillation, as much of the focus is on the encouraged active relationship between people and their surrounding environment.[5]

Stuart Wood

Stuart Wood is a Co-Founder and Director at rAndom international studio. As well as being instrumental in creative direction, Wood's background in electrical and software engineering allows him to bring the technological aspect into rAndom international studio's artwork. Like Koch, Wood has a keen interest in people - their thoughts and their actions - which is integrated into the studio's interactive instillations.[6]

Florian Ortkrass

Florian Ortkrass is the third Co-Founder and Director at rAndom international studio. His fascination with cognitive development and the applied sciences drive the artwork created by the studio.[7]
