GRSJ224/Reproductive Exploitation Cross Species

From UBC Wiki

Vegan Feminism refers to the social justice movement that stands against reproductive exploitation cross-species. The movement is based on the ideology that non-human animals are not resources but individuals. It also recognizes that not only large-scale factory farming, but local and free-range farming uses the female non-human animal solely for their reproductive function. This results in a much shorter life for the non-human animal, as she is constantly impregnated without consent to produce milk or lay eggs. During dairy farming, in order to ensure that the milk does not go to the new-born calf, mother and child are separated, denying the dairy cow motherhood. Instead, she is re-impregnated, until her reproductive system gives out after 3-4 years and she is then sent to slaughter. Normally a dairy cow can live for 20 years, but in this case her only value is her reproductive system. Vegan Feminism recognizes the intimate link between reproductive rights for human females and non-human females.
