Hello,
The question is asking for the gravitatimetric water content but I am not sure how to calculate that.... I thought it depends on the reference level so I am not quite sure I understand...

I was able to calculate Ms, the mass of solids in the soil, but am having trouble figuring out how to calculate the total mass of the soil, which seems to be what the question is asking. I guess I need to figure out the mass of water and add that to the mass of solids. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
I think you mean Question 3, not 4.
The mass of the solid would be without water. I would reread the introduction to number 3 and see if that helps give you a clue.
If not, think about field versus oven dry weight. Hope this helps!
